Drew Willard, Website and some art

This is The home page of Drew Willard, Quite simple its pretty obvious what the site is about from the off. This could be an approach I take in the Making of my own website, I think this could be effective for my intents and purposes. Indexhibit would probably be able to cater this look and function for me. Alternatively just designing a blog style simple layout on dreamweaver would probably work just as well.

Some of drew's work. Again the emphasis is on skillfull line work with effective use of colour, probably suitable for screen printing. These are all visual approaches that Im really buzzing off at the moment.

GODMACHINE!

This is the art of godmachine.

Godmachine produces amazingly detailed illustration mostly for bands and clothing companies such as disturbia clothing. I think the secret to his impressive impact his illustration creates is his methods of colour separation merged with his illustrative talent. Most of his screen prints use 3 to 4 bold colours which make for a really eye catching and bright effect. A brief I have written has these techniques in mind.

The grey and black print of the beast is a one colour print, I put that up to show how much detail goes purely into the linework.

two words.

holy heck.

Disturbia clothing

Disturbia clothing is an online store which have been "melting brains and breaking hearts since 2003". Really, really impressive illustration on the shirts by a host of different artists, all of which I think put submissions into the designer violence zine i was talking about in the previous post.

The detail and thought that goes into the colour separations for screen printing on these t shirts is really impressive and is something I have been contemplating and thinking about how to do effectively recently. I will post up some of my illustration I have been doing over the summer as soon as I have a scanner available.

I think this shows that there is a context for the type of illustration that I have been working myself up to be able to do well over this summer. Looking at things like the disturbia clothing website is helping me to actualise my ideas properly i think. Its also helping me to spend too much money onawesome t shirts...

Designer Violence - Submission based Zine

Open publication - Free publishing - More zine

I came across this zine Whilst looking at a link form the disturbia clothing website, (which I'll post up next) Its a pretty grim subject matter and blows open a great excuse to draw disgusting stuff, but also its a great oppertunity to have work showcased! The theme for the next zine is smut, I'm going to do a submission just to see if it gets in there. Still unsure about how to get hold of a copy of DV, but I spose I'll figure that out.

Heres their website:  http://designerviolence.org/main
Wicked stuff!

I could do shoes!

One of the guy's from pokedstudios sideprojects I think, nonetheless I could do this! Im not particularly keen on these illustrations, but it just made me think about how easy it must be to do. Anyway I found this image of his too, which I do really like as a fun print solution:

Really nice colours that compliment the stock.

My entry for Ben and Kens Shape of tommorow Zine

Thats a very low quality upload, just for the ease of uploading, but I decided to run with "only a mad man can draw a perfect circle" and then made a head out of a circle. It fits perfectly on A5 and has been emailed off meeting all the requirements. Simple Idea, but it works for me and Im confident this will be a nice asset to the zine. Cant wait for a printed copy!

Matt Lyon

some really interesting and unique illustrative print work I have come across by matt lyon. This sort of approach to an illustrative style I think would sell really well at a craft fair. Its, for lack of a more fitting word, kookie and fun, and a feast for the eyes!

His type solutions are really inventive and expressive, but also fit nicely into a context:

A festival poster Matt did, The kaleidoscopic style shapes and colours work really well for a summery, festival theme, which is why I think there working so well on thi poster. It also works well in more figurative and structurally abstract illustration:

By far my favourite" typoquote" as matt calls it, that he has produced is this one:

I can say that I aspire to create some print work like this in my third year, even if the brief is only to create imagery for typoquotes, So this can be seen as another brief idea - fair enough it would not be challenging to me as a brief, but surely by building a strong portfolio of work that is unique and says alot about me as well as client work shows a clarity in my aspirations into self directed and self motivated projects as well as client lead work.
